ADD/ADHD Parker Updates

by Dr Charles Parker on June 22, 2008 · 6 comments

Just a quick update on the Blog Silence over here with Parker – been working on ADD/ADHD projects:

I’ve been working, but not as hard as I did for the 3 summers I shoveled concrete on the roads in Missouri. Yes, those days were interesting in that I worked hard and got a big promotion after two years, from the shovel to the chute. – Big responsibility move!

Concrete Master

That’s what I was doing right here in this shot, you can see the guy’s hand on the chute – what control, what graceful moves. It gave me an opportunity to develop my deeper empathetic self… especially when the driver wanted to punch me out for the way I was handling the chute during a difficult pour.

Update: the daily haps on this end:

  • Busy as a bee writing a new ADD/ADHD book, more comprehensive than these blog posts, on exactly how to get the ADD/ADHD medications straight. Many are alone with the problems with meds, and I thought I should simply make it easier for everyone – so that project is well underway. Better than the chute!
  • We do have an enormous national problem with ADD/ADHD med mismanagement, and it isn’t the doc’s fault. We simply have no practical guidelines – so, hey, sounds like folks need a book. -Some method to the madness.
  • Just did a ~700 + word article, accepted at EzineArticles on the Therapeutic Window – remember this post? I broke the top of the window down even more completely and *will send a link* to you when it is back up next week… [I took it down for revision after it was posted - yes, a little perfectionistic] the top of the window needs more specific attention!

I will keep you all posted on the book progress, and am including a part of the first paragraph right here for your review… it will be an eBook – see what you think, and please leave a comment with your reaction:

“ADD/ADHD medications seem at every turn to raise big questions. From premature death, to addiction, to aberrant,                       crazy reactions, the medications appear to live in a shroud of counterproductive mystery – somewhere in the dark,                           shifting vapors of witches brew, potions, and black magic.”

Do you agree or disagree?

Gina,
Many thanks, I am looking forward to simply contributing to the evolution of improved structure – in a circumstance [medication management] paradoxically without structure, and look forward to a summer release – before school in September, but still too late for many…

Appreciate your perspective, look forward to an interview with you when your new book comes out!

I was a classroom teacher for almost 20 years. Parents would come to me regularly and want my opinion on beginning medication for their children as young as 5 years old. It was heartbreaking to see and I was forbidden by the school district to comment. Your new book will help hundreds of thousands around the world.

Go, Dr. P, Go!

Even here in the Bay Area, where we supposedly have some of the best medical care in the world, I am continually flattened by what I hear from both adults with ADHD and parents of children with ADHD regarding their medical care.

It’s driving me to distraction! :-)

So, please, take all the time you need. You have a wealth of information here that merits re-reading. And we desperately need such a guide.

Thank you!!!!

Hey Bryan,
You are the first order, will be sent to you *free,* – all I need to do is to have you remind me when it comes out…

Thanks for your support!

Well, your doing better at updating your blog than I am… however, I should have some time here soon.

Yes, put down for a pre-order on your book. That is some must have information about the meds. Too much confusion, and I think what bothers us the most is that our doctors don’t seem to know enough – just as you mentioned. I mean, if our doctor is not sure, well, then it must be witches brew… right?
